Tate Ward has been launched by former Christie’s and Chiswick Auctions specialists and will hold its first auctions in April.
Managing director Nigel Shorthouse said the firm plans four sales a year in each category and is searching for new staff with plans to expand into streetwear fashion sales.
The business operates from offices in east London and hires space in The Old Truman Brewery, near Brick Lane, to host its auctions.
Specialist Peter Mansell will oversee its first wine auction on April 4 which will be followed with urban and contemporary art auction on April 10 led by Danny Herbert and Harry Brian Parkinson.
Kings Russell Auctioneers will hold its first auction in Rutland Gardens, Knightsbridge on March 28.
The firm is run by Charles Hoey, most recently at Criterion, and Donal Savage, previously at Dreweatts. The next planned sale is May 16. The firm will focus on fine art, silver and jewellery sales initially and may expand into specialist sales in future.
A number of new auction houses have launched this year including Elstob & Elstob by David and Beth Elstob in Bedale, North Yorkshire and in Norfolk sisters Catherine and Shelley-Anne Wilford launched Beeston Auction House after the retirement of the owners of Townsend Auction Galleries, David and Diana Townsend.
