One is rendered holding a dagger, the other with ferociously sharp teeth to ward off evil spirits. Reputedly from Lincoln originally, they came to the dealership’s Andrew Singleton from a private collection in Kent and are available for £4850.
The show, which runs from May 25-June 15 in his Yoxford shop, brings together around 80 pieces of early oak, country furniture and associated works of art.
Furniture makes up the bulk of the show. A pair of c.1660 bobbin turned oak chairs, for example, is on offer for £1500. They come with a written provenance that they were purchased in the late 1960s from the dealer Ronald A Lee and were then bequeathed to a church in Derbyshire which sold them to help fund building repairs. Other offerings include a Charles I oak mural cupboard, an Italian walnut trestle table and burr walnut longcase clock.
Part of the exhibition is available to view on the shop’s website now, with more pieces added every day until the show opens on Saturday.
