It sold for £2200 to a US collector in the auction of Medals and Militaria at Bishop & Miller (20% buyer’s premium) in Stowmarket, Suffolk, on October 5, against an estimate of £500-700.

The hat was first owned by a field grade officer of the Light Dragoons. Including the maker’s label of Furnis, No.21 Princes Street still present to the interior, it was offered with its original canvas carrying case with the owners name, Majr Culton Lt Drgs, written in ink to the side.
