Running from November 29-December 22 in the Helsinki gallery, the exhibition includes his bold, colourful, graphic Abstracts such as Sommitelma levylle as well as his sculptural works.
However, the show also celebrates Nordström’s wide-ranging interests. Alongside his artistic career he designed furniture, scenography and commercial graphics as well as writing and teaching.
He was also an avid collector of jazz music, amassing more than 14,000 vinyl records, now thought to be the largest of its kind in Finland.
Nordström advised that his works be viewed slowly so that ‘visual rhythms’ would emerge as ‘music for the eyes’. Samples of the jazz collection, which now belongs to the Finnish National Library, will be played on the evenings of December 11 and 18.
The show was curated by Contemporary artist Mati Kujasalo and co-produced with the L-G Nordström Foundation. Works measuring 6ft 7in x 3ft 4in (2m x 1m) are offered for a price in the region of €36,000.
