He taught her the most important basic techniques and through his influence she was able to further her training as a guest at the Düsseldorf Academy (officially women were not allowed to study there).
By the age of 21, she was already an accomplished painter of still-lifes. It was a niche that she cultivated for most of her career. Her finely textured and realistically coloured compositions of fruit or flowers were highly sought after by collectors during her life and beyond.
