1. Most of Ronald Ossory Dunlop’s (1894-1973) life was spent in England and latterly at Barnham, close to Chichester in West Sussex. Sold at Gorringe’s on August 12, this late work exhibited at the Royal Academy depicts trees at nearby Goodwood.

2. Before it passed through Matthiesen of New Bond Street, this mixed-media work, Rock at Dusk, was acquired by Oxford University’s Exeter College in 1961 – the same year it was painted by versatile Modern British artist Michael Ayrton (1921-75). Offered at Mallams’ Cheltenham saleroom on August 15, the 12 x 20in (31 x 51cm) work sold towards the lower end of expectations.

3. This 3ft x 2ft 1in (93 x 66cm) wintry East Anglian scene by Clive Madgwick (1935-2005) sold at Essex saleroom Chalkwell on August 14. The price is in line with other works of a similar size depicting the artist’s beloved Suffolk.
