A postgraduate student at Bath Spa University, Rebecca Bright, is one of this year’s winners of the society’s student bursaries. She was awarded £500 for her project “that sees a traditional approach to textile design”.
Talking to ATG about the Neptune fabric she designed and screen-printed, upholstering the chair herself, Bright said: “I carried out extensive research on 20th century artist-designers, specifically Vanessa Bell, Duncan Grant, Enid Marx, Peggy Angus and Eric Ravilious.
“I love the fact that each of these artists blurred the boundaries between art and design, creating functional art to decorate the home. I find their use of colour, subject matter and drawing style inspirational.”
Bright currently works as a freelance textile designer for a London-based textile studio with the aim of building her brand to sell artist-designed textiles for interiors.
The upcoming London Antique and Vintage Textile Fair is at Chelsea Town Hall on Saturday, October 12.
