The loss of Boothman brought Will Porter to the crease who smashed a quick 51 after being dropped early in proceedings.
The aggression continued through Pettifer, Irfan and Coleman (also scoring a half century), with a plentiful supply of missed catches from the Trade causing heads to drop a bit.
The final tally for the auction house was 249 off their allotted 35 overs – a stiff target.
Valiant efforts
The Trade opened with the Gower-esque Christopher Kingzett and skipper Tony Fell. The chase was going well when Fell was out, but Rountree stabilised with a controlled innings. Kingzett at the other end was beginning to accelerate and the run rate was coming down nicely, but unfortunately he was out to an excellent catch – as was Rountree the following over.
Angus Maguire and Spencer Ewen continued the onslaught with a fine partnership of 100, Ewen especially making a glorious half century. Both were out, and the run rate required built back up to 10-an-over, which proved too much in the end for the Trade who finished on 320 – 30 runs short of their target. Valiant efforts by Toby Campbell, Tom Hunt, Chris Craig and Ross Thomas were sadly all in vain.
An excellent day all-round hosted by Nick Finch from Christie’s, and the Trade look forward to regaining the plate in 2020.
