A watercolour, pen and ink drawing of two soldiers by Claud Lovat Fraser (1890-1921) is among the selection of Victorian, Edwardian and Modern British art on offer from Sarah Colegrave Fine Art.

Created c.1918, it is available for £2800.

Fraser originally intended to join the family legal firm, but gave up his studies to attend the Westminster School of Art. He was fascinated with literature and the theatre and worked in illustration, stage costume and set design.

He is also remembered for his wartime sketchbooks which he produced while serving with the 14th Battalion of the Durham Light Infantry during the First World War. While recovering from gas and shellshock after a battle at the Ypres Salient, he planned a pictorial history of the Grenadier Guards.

After the war he held a number of exhibitions and worked on costumes for Nigel Playfair productions, but died of exhaustion and a weakened in heart at the home of his friend Paul Nash in 1921.

Sarah Colegrave is based in London and Oxfordshire.
