Upcoming is Midcentury East at the Erno Goldfinger-designed Haggerston School on Sunday, October 13 with 55 dealers selling solely mid-century pieces.

A new exhibitor is London-based dealer Adam Dillon, who with his partner Hannah Mottishaw runs an online design shop Sauce selling antique, vintage and mid-century designer chairs, tables and lighting. He is also the display manager for a prop hire company specialising in mid-century furnishings which is where he caught the interiors bug.

“Mid-century furniture has really been pushed into the mainstream and it totally depends on whether people want to buy pieces ‘in the style of’ mid-century or if they want to, and can afford to, buy the real deal. I’d like to think that people’s awareness of the environment would encourage them to buy vintage items rather than newly-produced pieces.

“Most of my stock is French or Italian in origin and sourced in the UK although I have just returned from the south of France where I bought a few really great pieces for the Midcentury East show.”

These brass and steel 1950s US ‘atomic’ lamps, originally with opaque glass uplighter shades, have now been converted for UK use with regular lampshades. They cost £475 the pair from Sauce

Meanwhile, a new mid-century fair is launching in London on Saturday, September 28 at the Halley Academy in Blackheath,

SE3. Under the banner Century Twenty Design Shows there will be around 40 standholders selling a mix of vintage pieces alongside a contemporary design makers’ market.
