It shows an interior at Ampney Park in Gloucestershire – the sort of place where one might wish to be social distanced in the warmer months.
Despite the size of the glass of wine included in the image, the artist was actively involved in the temperance movement from the mid-1850s and in 1887 wrote a book highlighting the social problems caused by alcohol.
