London dealer Nigel Milne offers this 1970s Tiffany & Co flowerhead brooch (top), made with 18ct yellow gold, diamonds and pearls, for £6950. According to the dealer, the brooch’s size, 3 x 2½in (8 x 6.5cm), along with its form “exemplifies the renewed confidence of the period where people wanted to make a statement, to shock and express their personality via their accessories”.

This pair of Ming Dynasty (15th-16th century) hollow double gourd earrings are of a type worn by noblewomen of the day, as recorded in the Tianshui bingshan lu. Gold examples such as this have been mostly found in the provinces of Liaoning, Gansu, Hangshu, Jiangshu and Sichuan. Measuring about 2in (5cm) long, the pair is offered by Asian jewellery specialist Sue Ollemans for $7500.
