Agate cameo in a diamond and enamel surround with French assay marks for Jules Wièse, £6500 at Elmwood’s.
Similar Renaissance and Gothic revival pieces were shown at the 1862 International Exhibition in London where Wièse – who previously worked in Paris with Jean-Valentin Morel and as chef d’atelier for goldsmith Froment-Meurice – exhibited jewellery under his own name and was awarded at gold medal.
On June 24 at Elmwood’s (25% buyer’s premium) in London it took £6500.
