Sometimes called Harrisware, this complex pattern with its handle in the shape of the number 5 and the letters O and C never featured in a Belleek catalogue in any of its three colourways (green, pink and white).
While the pattern was reproduced by the Belleek Company in 2008, original pieces are hard to find. However, a complete tea set comprising teapot, jug, bowl, and six cups and saucers emerged in the 915-lot catalogue offered by Kingham & Orme (23% buyer’s premium) in Evesham on July 24-25. Estimated at £80-120 – the sort of price level achieved by more commonly-seen pieces of Belleek in the sale – it made a much punchier £3800.
Silver sale-toppers
Meiji double-walled bowl – £11,500 at Kingham & Orme.
Two very different silver lots generated some of the top prices. A monumental Meiji double-walled bowl embossed with irises in a watery landscape stood an impressive 16in (41cm) diameter and weighed more than 200oz. Bearing a signature, it went over the phone at a quadruple-estimate £11,500.
Guild of Handicraft silver bowl – £4300 at Kingham & Orme.
A rare design attributed to Charles Robert Ashbee sold to a collector at £4300. This 6in (15cm) diameter tazza with marks for the Guild of Handicraft and London 1904 had two seahorse feet and a base worked with other marine life and waves.
