1. Conveying more humour than is typical for Victorian artist John Charles Maggs (1819-96), this 14in x 2ft 2in (36 x 66cm) oil on canvas, White Horse Cellar (Hatchetts) Piccadilly, found a buyer within estimate at Hansons in Staffordshire on December 12.
2. Watercolours by the painter John Cyril Harrison (1898-1985) have made in excess of £10,000 but most remain largely affordable on the secondary market. This typical 9 x 12½in (22 x 32cm) watercolour sold on January 11 at Tennants of Leyburn in North Yorkshire where it was guided at £600-800.
3. Henry Frederick Lucas Lucas (1848-1943) was a prolific painter of equestrian scenes, particularly in and around the Rugby area where he moved to in his early 30s. This signed 18½in x 2ft 2in (47 x 65cm) oil on canvas almost doubled its top guide at Lawrences of Crewkerne, Somerset, on January 17.
