Pictured here are two similar versions of the ‘second generation’ Submariner coming up for sale.
On January 30, Sterling Vault of Farnham, Surrey, will offer a version of the classic Ref 7928 that first appeared in the brand’s general catalogue in 1968. Its characteristics were crown guards to protect the winding crown, waterproofing to a depth of 200 metres and a self-winding movement. This example (that has a service dial from the late 1970s) was one of a series made for the Argentine Navy, the Cupro Guardia de Infanterta (CI). The estimate is £7500-8500.
Although rarer than most Rolex Submariners of the same era, Tudor watches are priced more modestly than Rolex equivalents. On February 10 Fellows expects £5000-8000 for a Tudor Ref 7016/0 from the early ‘70s as part of The Watch Sale in Birmingham. It too is fitted to an unsigned green nylon Nato-style strap with stainless steel pin.
