Still life of flowers by Dorothea Sharp – £7500 at Ewbank’s.

This 23 x 19in (60 x 50cm) oil on board, depicting an assortment of lilies, daisies and other flowers in a vase executed in the artist’s typical Impressionistic style, was offered with a conservative guide of £1500-2500 at Ewbank’s (30% buyer’s premium) in Surrey on January 30.

Consigned by a private vendor in west Surrey, it came with a label for the Glasgow art dealer WB Simpson Fine Art and sold for £7500 to a trade buyer in the Midlands.

Although undated, it shares similarities with the still-lifes Sharp executed later in her career. Typically, these contain blooms of bold colour, a corner or window ledge and a familiar pale-coloured jug.
