The York fair is held at the racecourse, where there has been an antiques and collectors’ event for more than 30 years, the last 20 of which were run by the late Reg Frost of Selby Antiques Fairs.
Cawood said: “I had been running Reg’s fairs since 2016 and took over after he died in 2018. I relaunched in January last year, including specialist vintage traders and focusing on attracting a younger, more interior-design-led audience through increased use of social media.”
He started dealing in vintage toys when he was 16, moved into Mid-century decorative art when he was 30 and now mainly buys for himself rather than as a dealer.
“I recently decided to launch a smaller series of antiques and vintage fairs to run four times a year on a Saturday in Pocklington starting at the beginning of February,” added Cawood. “These will be held between the three 100- plus larger racecourse events with a handpicked mix of 25-plus traders from those fairs. Pocklington is an attractive market town with a high street which has been rejuvenated with cafés, bars and shops.”
The next Pocklington Antiques and Vintage Fair at the Pocklington Arts Centre will run on May 2 while the upcoming antique, home and vintage fair at York Racecourse will be held on Sunday, March 15.
