A George III 1805 pattern naval officerʼs sword belonged to Captain Charles Beecroft (1780-1859), who joined the Royal Navy as a volunteer in 1795 serving with Captain William Sidney Smith in HMS Diamond. Wounded and taken prisoner in 1796, once recovered he worked his way up the ranks after involvement in a number of key engagements.
The sword, with blued and gilded steel blade by Osborne and Gunby and ivory grip bound in brass, is offered by East Bristol Auctions on February 21 with the fragmentary remains of a bullion sword knot and scabbard, plus a copied account of the naval history of Beecroft. Estimate £2000-3000.

The Designer Collection at Fellows in Birmingham on February 24 includes a Hermès Kelly Sellier 35 handbag in smooth camel coloured box calf leather.
Made in 2001, it has some faint watermarks and scratches and comes without a maker's dust bag or box. The estimate is £2000-2500.

The clocks sale at Gardiner Houlgate in Corsham on February 20 includes a giant 11in (27cm) gilt-bronze and porcelain mounted striking carriage clock by Japy Freres et Cie.
Made c.1870 it was purchased by Mary Louise Campbell wife of the 2nd Earl of Ellesmere, when she accompanied Queen Victoria to one of the Paris exhibitions. Last sold at Christie's in 1997 for £6200, the estimate this week is £2500-3500.

Magic Comic followed Beano and Dandy as the third major comics title published by DC Thomson of Dundee in 1939. It only lasted for 80 issues until 1941 before falling victim to wartime paper and dye shortages.
Copies of the first five issues are offered for sale as part of Comic Book Auctions’ online sale that closes on March 1.
Included in the lot, estimated at £2500-3000, is the Magic Comic promotional flyer (an eight-page mini comic in its own right) and a piece of the original artwork from issue No 2, Little Squirty the Elephant by Chick Gordon.
