Made in London 1780-81, the neoclassical ‘boat’ shaped pair is engraved with an armorial boar crest for the Bacon family, and dragons’ head arms for the Cutler family of Yorkshire. Unusually for tureens of this age, they were offered with their original stands. Ticketed at £9500, they were offered by London dealer Mary Cooke Antiques and were snapped up by a private collector from New Zealand.
The Antiques Dealers Fair Limited organises the Mayfair event, which ran from January 9-12. For several of the 40 exhibitors, it was a positive start to the new year.
Cornelia Perquin of Precious Flora said: “l’ve never sold so many items in a single day at a fair.” She met new clients on the fair’s opening day, including some from overseas who chose pieces from her selection of floral vintage and antique jewellery.
