Attributed to Joseph Nicholls (1692-1760), this 18th century oil on canvas shows the old Houses of Parliament, Westminster Bridge and St Stephen’s Chapel. At the time of its painting, the bridge was a relatively new construction and the scene depicts it against the medieval and Georgian buildings that comprised the Houses of Parliament.
The picture has a provenance to the estate of Percy Rivington and Evelyn Sloane Pyne of New York and is available for £18,000 from dealer William Thuillier, who offers paintings from 1600-1800.
