Tennants’ first stand-alone Fine Jewellery, Watches and Silver sale will take place on March 21, alongside the Leyburn Spring Fine Art Sale.
A highlight of the silver section is this set of three George III salvers by Richard Rugg, London, 1776 (estimate £8000-12,000).
Each is engraved with the arms for Sir Walter Vavasour, 6th Baronet (1744-1802). The Vavasour family resided at Hazelwood Castle, near Leeds before it was sold in 1907.

A sale titled Art & Design Post 1880 at Duke’s of Dorchester on March 19 includes some fine pieces of Poole pottery. This Leaping Gazelle 15-piece tile panel with Picotee spray glazes is the example pictured in the factory monograph Poole Pottery by Leslie Hayward and Paul Atterbury.
Probably designed by John Adams, it is believed to have been shown in the visitor’s tearooms at the Carters factory in Poole. Now mounted in an oak frame measuring 2ft 3in by 21in (67 x 52cm), it comes for sale from a Dorset private collection with an estimate of £4000-6000.
