The Viscount’s Officer’s mameluke and scabbard sold for £2200, a Japanese general’s sword presented to Trenchard in the 1940s by Lord Louis Mountbatten for £4800 and his Royal Scots Fusiliers dress sword for £6500.
Trenchard served with the Royal Scots Fusiliers during the Boer War before being invalided home and was Colonel in Chief of the regiment from 1919-46. The mameluke appears to date from his time as Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police in the early 1930s.
