A black felt hat once owned by Emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria will go under the hammer at Dorotheum on October 19 with an estimate of €3000-6000.

Made of black felt and dating from c.1900, the hat displays the imperial double-headed eagle and the emperor’s initials embossed in gold to the inside.

It is one of a number of personal items formerly owned by the emperor and other members of the Austrian imperial family that are to be offered for sale.

Other lots include Franz Joseph’s pince-nez, cigar holder and a pair of black silk socks.

Estimate €3000-6000.
