Sold at £7300 (estimate £300-500) to a buyer using thesaleroom.com was a 16in (39cm) powder-blue bottle vase decorated to a cobalt ground with gilt medallions filled with shou symbols, flowers and ruyi.
Decoration of this kind was first pioneered in the Kangxi period but this vase carried a Guangxu (1875-1908) six-character mark to base.
Kangxi period Yixing vase – £11,900 at Fieldings.
Although also deemed late Qing, an 11in (28cm) Yixing clay vase was probably from the Kangxi period, c.1700. Assuming an octagonal baluster form, it is relief moulded with flowering lotus and blossom branches within stiff lappet borders and heightened with gilt.
Two similar vases (without the gilt decoration) took £12,000 and £11,000 when Woolley & Wallis sold the private collection of Yixing wares formed by Jos and Carla Ott in 2011. Another pair, with some damage, sold for £5000 at Bonhams in Edinburgh in 2018.
This Midlands example, offered on August 20 and estimated at just £150-200, sold for £11,900.
