The council said that markets are a “vital part of what makes the borough a great place to live, work and learn”. Its One Year Culture Plan 2020-2021 envisages “creating a new plan for 2021-2026”.

The consultation will be held in various ways to capture the views of traders, retailers, residents and visitors.

Online meetings are being held and a written consultation will be drafted by April. A survey of all market traders as well as customers and residents will be open for six weeks to collect comments on the consultation document until the end of May.

The council then hopes to create a Markets Plan by June.
