Box House Antiques is selling this Chippendale period satinwood and marquetry desk, priced at £29,000.

The George III piece with its ornate marquetry inlays is reminiscent of the decoration on Thomas Chippendale’s famous ‘Diana and Minerva Commode’, which was supplied to Edwin Lascelles in the 1770s for the interior of his new house at Harewood.

The dealership says it is rare today to find fine-quality 18th century satinwood and marquetry-inlaid desks as most offered on the market are later versions, adding that major, period satinwood pieces have become “virtually unobtainable”.
