The art and antiques trade is asked to be on high alert following this theft and to inform the police if they are offered any of the missing works of art.

Ten easily identifiable artworks were stolen overnight on September 21-22 from Tomas so’s 67 Jermyn Street gallery in St James’s. They include a 2ft 6in (75cm) high Cristo Morto gilt bronze c.1640 by Ferdinando Tacca and a 20in (51cm) high Roman portrait bust of Sophocles.

Tomasso said it is working “closely with the police as their investigation continues”.

“Our intention is to make people aware of the safety and security of their own galleries and also to be on the look-out for the stolen artworks,” said a spokesperson for the gallery.

Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111, quoting Crime Reference Number 6535802/21.

Founded in 1993, brothers Dino and Raffaello run the Tomasso gallery from Bardon Hall in Leeds as well as the London location.
