The chair has Gothic Revival/ Aesthetic Movement detailing flowing into the organic, sweeping and rounded forms that evolved under Art Nouveau with features in the style of Charles Bevan or Bruce Talbert.

Among a wide range of suggestions received so far, one is that it could be as early as from the 1830s, continental Egyptian Revival, from a cathedral or even possibly for military ceremonial use. It has certainly divided opinion. Any thoughts appreciated and gratefully accepted.
