Minton game tureen on fitted stand – estimate $40,000-60,000 at Strawser.
The third day will be given over to majolica wares, including the collection of Betsy and Rick Porter, and will feature pieces by some of the leading manufacturers in this field such as Minton and George Jones.
A highlight will be the particularly rare Minton game tureen on fitted stand, pictured above, from the Porter collection, made in the form of a boar’s head. It measures 22in (56cm) in length and 11½in (29cm) in height and carries an estimate of $40,000-60,000.
The Porter collection also features two Minton’s majolica teapots that were purchased in 2005 from the collection of Marilyn Karmason, author of Majolica, A Complete History & Illustrated Survey.
Minton majolica cobalt ground flat iron-shaped teapot – estimate $20,000-30,000 at Strawser.
One of these is fashioned as a vulture attacking a snake and is guided at $30,000-40,000. The other, shown above, is a cobalt ground flat iron-shaped teapot which is modelled with a white cat on the handle looking down at a mouse holding a carrot. This has a guide of $20,000-30,000.
