A former head of the Modern & Post War British Art department at Sotheby’s, he joins the firm this month as associate director and senior specialist and will work with head of Modern Art & Design Philip Smith at L&T’s London gallery.

For its first edition in April 2023, the dedicated art sale will run alongside the firm’s biannual Modern Made auctions.

Valuable experience

Hucker has worked in the Modern and Contemporary art world in London since the late 1990s, both as an auctioneer and a gallery specialist.

Before joining Sotheby’s, he was a director at Jonathan Clark Fine Art, where he worked closely with the estates and families of leading post-war British artists.

He has written extensively on Modern and Contemporary art – including a monograph on the British Modernist sculptor George Kennethson.

Hucker said: “The team have a great reputation for being friendly and approachable, as well as knowledgeable, which is important to me both personally and professionally. I’ve been a fan of Philip’s Modern Made sales since their inception, so I am really looking forward to working with him.

“Our new sale will no doubt have a strong British flavour to it; however, I am interested in exploring the synergy between Modern and Contemporary British art and its counterparts in Europe, Asia and America.”
