Work by a range of representative designer decorator names from the period was on offer, like Jacques-Emile Ruhlmann, Jean Dunand, Pierre Chareau and Jean-Michel Frank.

Frank’s (1895-1941) table lamp fashioned from a piece of rose quartz with a fabric and leather shade dated from c.1925, the landmark year for French Deco.

The piece which is stamped J.M.FRANK/MADE IN FRANCE, numbered 4022 and has the editor’s mark Chanaux et Pelletier on the leather, was commissioned from Frank by the parents of the vendor, passing down by descent.

Similar designs by him featured in several of his interiors including the Paris home of Charles and Marie-Laure de Noailles.

The lamp sold at the May 24 sale for €170,000 (£147,825).
