So why did the example in between, estimated at £120-150, take £2000? As is so often the answer when it comes to higher-value mass-produced toys, this one was a rarity brough out as a promotional issue, on this occasion for Borregaard Paper.
It was described by the Stockton-on-Tees auction house as ‘Excellent with a few tiny chips in Good Plus creased Type G Box’.
Triumphant result
Another good example of a rarity premium came in the form of a Dinky Toys Triumph Herald sold at Lewes saleroom Wallis & Wallis (22% buyer’s premium) on October 24.
Catalogued as ‘box 8.5/10, minor wear, with all flaps. Vehicle VGC a couple of small chips only’, it was a rare example in red and white with spun wheels and black treaded tyres.
Guided at £500-700 but making £2200, it was described as a ‘Point-of-Sale’ version.
