The 10in (24.5cm) high footed baluster shaped Géologie vase is decorated not with the flowers or other vegetal motifs that normally populate Emile Gallé’s repertoire but inspired instead by the mineral world, the white and dark blue satin ground applied with crystal rocks set against a gold leaf ground.

The vase, which dates from c.1889, the year Gallé was awarded the Grand Prix at the Paris Exposition Universelle, has a Gallé vertical signature engraved to the body of the vase. It comes from the master glassmaker’s personal collection and has passed down by descent through his family.

Estimate €40,000-60,000.
