1970 Heuer Autavia Chronograph awarded to rally driver Doug Harris, £9500 at Hansons.
Expected to bring £6000-8000 at the inaugural Hansons’ (25% buyer’s premium) sale in Tunbridge Wells on May 23, it made £9500.
Harris won Class 1 of the race in his number 45 Ford Escort 1300GT, the car with the smallest engine in the event. The watch is engraved World Cup Rally 1970. Mr D Harris. Congratulations from Ford Britain.
For the buyer of the watch the provenance was key. They too had been involved in the same race.
