The buyer was from the US.

Dating from c.1760 and each standing 4in (10cm) high on a rocaille moulded base, they were in fine condition with little sign of damage or restoration. They came for sale on June 7 from an old Wiltshire collection with an estimate of £2000-3000.

A similar pair of figures from the Lady Charlotte Schreiber Collection are in the Victoria and Albert Museum (they were purchased for £7 in 1873 as Chelsea), while more recently a pair sold for $6500 as part of the David and Peggy Rockefeller Collection at Christie’s in New York in May 2018.

Certain areas of the Bow market remain strong. A pair of parrots on ‘tree stump’ bases from the same period sold at Thomas Watson in Darlington for £16,000 in 2018.
