Sixty antique, vintage and art dealers will set out their stalls along the road.
This is in addition to the 18 antiques shops and galleries in the street as well as 80 dealers at Alfies Antiques Market so it all makes a great opportunity for antiques buyers, with 150-plus dealers on the day offering good reasons to splash the cash.
The fair is organised by the Church Street Antiques and Art Dealers’ Association and Alfies Antiques Market in partnership with Westminster City Council Church Street Regeneration.
Antiques enclave
Bennie Gray, founder of Alfies, said: “How wonderful for all the community to be coming together this summer to share their art, antiques, entertainment and food with the neighbourhood in true Church Street style.
“The eastern half of Church Street is filled with antiques shops, many of them run by dealers who started life at Alfies and have now made the area one of the best enclaves for antiques in London.”
If you are wandering through the aisles of IKEA it is worth remembering that some of the company’s pieces form part of the booming Mid-century Scandi design market. These two Verner Panton Vilbert chairs by the famed Danish designer were made for IKEA in 1993 but did not sell well so production ceased. Only 3000 were made and Mario Siebert of London-based Diagonal Furniture has four of them at £1250 each. He is taking a pitch at the Church Street Antiques Fair. diagonalfurniture.com
Among the dealers taking pitches at the fair are Stevie Pearce – who started her dealing life at the market – with vintage costume jewellery.
The stand of Leon Young of Young & Son may well be opposite his antiques and decorative arts gallery at 12 Church Street.
Stephen Brett of Bronek, based in west London, will offer vintage furniture while Morgan Harper Brown of I Love That’s lighting and homeware will be sure to see plenty of takers.
Party time
To add to the party atmosphere, which includes street food and live music, the local Cockpit Theatre, “a theatre of ideas and disruptive practice”, will be there and Bollywood dance is promised.
