A pocket watch owned by Titanic passenger Sinai Kantor, estimate £50,000-80,000 at Henry Aldridge in Devizes, Wiltshire.
This pocket watch was owned by Titanic passenger Sinai Kantor. A Russian immigrant, he was on his way to America in April 1912 accompanied by his wife Miriam. He was a furrier and intended to sell trunks of furs to fund the couple’s goal to study dentistry and medicine when they arrived.
Kantor’s body was pulled from the icy water during a seven-day recovery operation after the sinking. He was labelled Body No. 283 and embalmed on the ship. Miriam was saved in lifeboat 12. Her husband’s effects were returned to her on May 24 the same year including a ‘silver watch’.
The Swiss-made open-face silver-on-brass watch, with its original movement and a diameter of three inches, includes numerals that are Hebrew figures. The back cover has an embossed design that shows Moses holding the Ten Commandments.
The movement is heavily corroded as a result of immersion in salt water, the hands are nearly all deteriorated and the dial heavily stained.
At Henry Aldridge in Devizes, Wiltshire, on November 11 the estimate is £50,000-80,000.

Among items by London gunmaker James Purdey & Sons on offer in Gavin Gardiner’s Modern & Vintage Sporting Guns on November 15 is a pair of lightweight 12-bore self-opening sidelock ejector guns with 28in Whitworth steel chopper-lump barrels that are expected to fetch £20,000-30,000.
The maker confirms that the guns were built in 1930 for TA Forslind and Gardiner says they remain in a “little used and exceptionally original condition”.

Going to the Derby (estimate £2000-3000) and Lost and Served their rights for betting (estimate £1500-2000) are a pair. One shows a carriage of frogs pulled by a mouse on their way to Epson. The other shows the party somewhat dejected as they follow the sign back to London.

A collection of modern Vietnamese embroideries collected by the late Chinese and Japanese porcelain and works of art specialist David Wheatley will be offered at Roseberys in south London on November 7.
The dealer from Wheatley Antiques, who died in 2017, joined the trade in 1973. In 2003, when on a cycling holiday in Vietnam, Wheatley made contact with XQ Embroideries: a collective making hand embroidery, made by artisans and designed by artists, in a historical village in Dalat, Vietnam.
Wheatley and his wife Linda became distributors in the UK for founders Mr Vo Van Quan and is wife Hoang Thi Quan, as well as personal friends.
Wheatley retired in 2006 and his collection remained in storage. It is now being sold and 10 artworks are offered at the West Norwood auction house. Among them is this leopard embroidery called The Hunter by Nguyen Thanh Phong and made by Hoang Thi.

On November 15 Batemans of Stamford is holding an auction of a private collection of bronzes by Italian artist Giuseppe Renda (1859-1939).
Estimated at £1500-2000 in the 55-lot sale is this 14in (35.5cm) high, aculpture titled ‘First mistake’ (Primo fallo). Created c.1900, it is signed G Renda and comes with an Art Lagana foundry seal. It is mounted on a stepped green marble base.
