A documentary Lowestoft porcelain jug estimated at £6000-8000 to be auctioned at Keys on November 22.
By pure chance, a blue and white Lowestoft porcelain jug inscribed to John Gates, Larling 1789 was consigned just weeks after its matching lid inscribed with the date and the initials JGL was sourced from a separate vendor.
Gates was a farmer in Larling, Norfolk where he was recorded as paying Land Tax.
David Broom of Keys, said: “It is one of those incredible coincidences. They definitely go together as the pattern, date and initials are the same.”

The lid was consigned by a vendor in the summer but it failed to sell on its own. Now it will be offered in the same auction as its matching jug on November 22.
The jug was separately consigned by a collector who purchased it many years ago from a major London dealer. The jug and cover have been apart for decades.
