Founded in 1992, the gallery is now located at 116 East 62nd Street off Park Avenue, New York. The Autumn Exhibition, which runs until November 3, features recent acquisitions of paintings and works on paper from the 19th and 20th centuries.

The picture was executed in coloured chalks four years after the couple married in 1901. It has to the back a label indicating that it was with Messrs P & D Colnaghi & Obach at New Bond Street.

This gallery name lasted from 1912-16, suggesting that this is the last time this work was on the market. It was recently rediscovered in a collection in Connecticut.

Also on offer at the show are a collection of marine paintings by Montague Dawson, three landscapes by Camille Corot and Orientalist paintings by Edwin Lord Weeks, Frederick Arthur Bridgman, Alberto Pasini, and Jean-Léon Gérôme.
