The items furnished van Pauwvliet’s home in Amsterdam and will be offered at Bonhams in New Bond Street on November 21.

The Dutch clocks include this late 18th century mahogany cased musical table clock with planisphere dial by Rutgerus van Meurs. The 2ft 5in (75cm) high cased clock, which is in a brass-mounted case, has a twin chain fusée movement with verge escapement and a musical movement playing tunes on 18 bells and 25 hammers.

The brass dial, which is set with enamel chapter rings, is signed Rútgerús van Meúrs Amsterdam and has subsidiary dials for a four-year cycle, a music and strike selection with an astrological indicator and a painted moonphase in the arch.

Van Meurs was born in Amsterdam in 1736. His father Otto van Meurs was also a horologist and it is likely that Rutgerus was apprenticed to him. Like his father, he made watches and longcase clocks, but was also one of the few Dutch horologists to make astronomical clocks, for which he is best remembered today.

Bonhams’ clock has an estimate of £25,000-35,000.
