Mainly dating back to the 1960s, the group of mostly Marvel comics was found in a loft at a house clearance in Sutton Coldfield.

Going under the hammer at Richard Winterton (22% buyer’s premium) in Lichfield on March 25, the comics offered in more than 40 lots all got away.

A single lot comprising more than 1500 comics predominantly from the 1960s-70s fetched £8400 against an estimate of £2000-3000.

This included characters such as The Amazing Spider-Man, Uncanny X-Men, The Incredible Hulk, Tales To Astonish, Tales Of Suspense, Invincible Iron Man, Captain America, The Mighty Thor, Journey Into Mystery, Daredevil, Doctor Strange, Avengers, Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider, Silver Surfer, Namor, Iron Fist, Nick Fury, Ms. Marvel, Captain Marvel, Nova, Master Of Kung Fu, Howard The Duck, Conan The Barbarian, Red Sonja, Moon Knight, Werewolf By Night, Spider-Woman and The Defenders.

A further 42 lots featured comics sold separately or in small groups. These included such Marvel highlights as Fantastic Fourissues #48, #49 and #50, featuring the first appearances of the Silver Surferand Galactus, selling at £580, and Werewolf By Night#32 and #33, marking the first appearance of Moon Knight, making £440.
