His early works were clearly influenced by the Pre-Raphaelites. Moore later concentrated his efforts on the portrayal of languorous women in classical costumes. His Victorian clientele was keen to buy such slightly risqué pictures that were often sold straight from the easel. Moore became an important exponent of the Aesthetic Movement.

Two examples of his neoclassical paintings were offered togther by Metz (28% buyer’s premium) in Heidelberg, Germany on March 22.

For over 20 years, they were the property of an American collector and were now sold without reserve.

Both were oil on paper, 16 x 6in (40 x 15cm) and identically framed.

Bidding from several quarters was intense and after several minutes a London dealer bought the paintings for €52,000 (£44,830).
