The auction house in Heage Lane, Etwall suffered a burglary during the early hours of April 18.
Criminals used a vehicle to reverse into the building six times, breaking through its roller shutter, a window and parts of the brick structure.
They took jewellery that was destined for auction that day.
Charles Hanson said: “We all have to be wary of security and the demand by criminals for gold and jewellery as it is such a buoyant market.”
Hanson said the alarms were linked to the police and officers and people from the security firm were on the scene “promptly”.
He added: “I am upset for my clients, but we are fully insured. Life can be very trying.” He is in discussion with his insurance firm regarding the theft.
Postponed
As ATG went to press, the police and Hansons were working through what had been taken. The first day of a planned four-day sale - a silver, watches and jewellery auction - was postponed. However, the rest of the sale began as planned at 11am the following day (April 19).
In a statement on its website Hansons added: “Monday and Tuesday sales will be as normal with 9.30am start time. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
A statement issued by Derbyshire Police on April 18 said: “Officers remain at the scene of the incident and there will be an ongoing presence there as the investigation continues.
“Anyone who is able to assist officers with their enquiries is asked to contact Derbyshire Constabulary using reference 45-180424.”
