The Fine Art Society’s former home on Bond Street which closed in 2018 after 142 years.
The historic dealership was in Bond Street, Mayfair, for 142 years until closing there in 2018. It then took on temporary offices in Chelsea while looking for permanent premises. In autumn 2020 it opened its first exhibition in its Soho gallery.
Emily Walsh, managing director of FAS, said: “Since opening in Soho in 2020 the gallery hit a couple of pandemic years and following that footfall didn’t meet expectations.”
Now the firm plans to focus on its Edinburgh gallery, online offerings as well as fairs and pop-up exhibitions in London.
Loch Achray, 1859, by Waller Hugh Paton (1828-95), oil on canvas, priced £55,000 at The Fine Art Society exhibition Fine Shadings: 250 Years of Painting in Scotland, which runs until March 16.
Walsh added: “We’ve had a gallery outside London for several decades and have long been aware of the importance of our digital presence. Increasingly this is how people come to us.
“In our current set-up we are better placed to be more agile and apply our resources to what makes a difference both physically and virtually.”
