The gallery’s Anthony Meyer says the item was stolen from the gallery at around 1PM on Tuesday, September 11.

The object is a whimsical spoon in the form of a bird made out of a coconut shell. It was created by an artist in Melanesia, Papua New Guinea in the 20th century and was collected in the field in the 1970s or 80s.

Meyer has asked that anyone with information on the object contact a local police force or call 101.
