The auction at Duran Subastas in Madrid on September 21 will feature a special section of 33 lots of Ethiopian art, including this devotional triptych estimated at €5500.
A potential highlight is a devotional triptych (above) referring to the Ascension and Last Judgement which is attributed to Gabre Masih and dates from the second artistic school of Gondar in the 18th century.
Despite the influence of the Roman Catholic church and European art in general during this period, Ethiopian art retained much of its distinct character, as reflected in this example.
Painted on canvas which has been attached to the wooden panels, it measures 12 x 20in (31 x 51cm) and is estimated at €5500.
