Titled Dolce far Niente, the 20in x 2ft 6in (51 x 76cm) oil on canvas was painted in 1907 and depicts a young patrician woman studying a grape she has plucked in her hand.
Godward often depicted young women striking studied poses against meticulously rendered classical landscapes, in the style of his teacher, Lawrence Alma-Tadema.
The work was one of the last handled by Godward’s long-term dealer and close ally, Thomas McLean, before his death in 1908.
Estimate £200,000-300,000.
