He experimented with glazes, until he perfected his so-called Dalpayrat red. The forms of his vessels were often inspired by Japanese vases and, coupled with the distinctive glazes he created, they were a great success.
Dalpayrat’s studio executed not only his own models, but also those of contemporary designers such as Alphonse Voisin-Delacroix and Maurice Dufrêne.
Sometime c.1905, Dalpayrat created this pair of 16in (42cm) high vases, glazed in red, dark violet, blue and green. They are an example of his flambé glaze, which Dalpayrat first showed at the Salon des Beaux Arts in May 1892 and to even greater acclaim at the Galerie Georges Petit in December of the same year.
They are being sold by Kaupp in Sulzburg in the sale of November 20-21 with a guide of €4800.
