This Regency period rosewood writing table sporting lyre end supports is attributed to the work of London cabinet maker John McLean & Son.
Typical of the work produced by the firm in the early 19th century with its brass inlay and chased mounts, the 2ft 6in x 3ft 8in x 2ft (76cm x 1.11m x 61cm) piece is priced at £26,000 from Patrick Sandberg Antiques.
John McLean (1770-1825) was influenced by the French master cabinet maker Adam Weisweiler and was known for his fine desks, writing tables and cabinets. He supplied furniture for the 5th Earl of Jersey, including his London mansion in Berkeley Square and Middleton Park in Oxfordshire.
Business began to decline after his son William took over the firm in c.1815, and by 1825 it was defunct.
